A STUDY TO FIND OUT THE EFFECT OF 7 STRATEGIES TO ASSIST ON BALANCE AND GAIT PATTERN IN PARKINSON’S DISEASES PATIENTS: A RANDOMIZED CONTROL TRIAL

Abstract
Background & need of research: Parkinson’s patient has most often balance and walking difficulties. Patient who has difficulty walking can use several strategies to improve their walking. The patient’s locomotor patterns include a slow gait with balance impairments. Strategies to improve and help to normalize and easy to do an activity. So, there was a need to find out the effect of strategies to assist on balance and gait in Parkinson’s patients. Methods: It was a randomized control study in which sixty Hoehn & yhar stage 1,2, and 3 patients aged 50 to 70 years were included. Patients with musculoskeletal impairments of the lower extremities which would affect walking were excluded from the study. The patients were randomly divided into 3 groups, group A received 7 strategies with conventional therapy, group B received conventional therapy, and group C was the control group. pre- and post-treatment of the Berg balance scale and Functional gait assessment for balance and gait respectively were taken. Results: Data were analyzed by using SPSS 26. Pre-treatment and post-treatment comparison of BBS and Functional gait assessment score was done between the group and within the group by Kruskal Wallis test, Mann Whitney U test, and Wilcoxon single rank test respectively with CI level 95%. The Result showed a significant difference in p-value< 0.05). Conclusion: The results of the study concluded that there was a significant effect of the 7 strategies to assist on balance and gait patterns in Parkinson’s disease patients.
