Abstract

Background: Uveitis is the inflammation of the uveal tract and occur at any age but predominantly affect patients in the working-age group. The study aimed to report the clinical pattern of Uveitis in Basrah province. Methods: A descriptive study in the Department of Ophthalmology. After taking informed consent, 100 patients have uveitis aged 15–65 years were recruited between 2019- 2022. Detailed history, complete ophthalmic examination, standard diagnostic laboratory tests and radiographic studies wherever required were made. Results: About 57% males and 43% females were included in the study. The mean age was 38.65±10.34 years. Uniocular involvement was observed in 58%, whereas 42% of cases showed bilateral involvement. Acute uveitis was diagnosed in 42% of patients, and chronic uveitis in 58% of cases. The most common type of uveitis was anterior (80%), followed by posterior (9%), panuveitis (7%) and intermediate (4%). A definite association with the systemic comorbid diseases was reported in 27% of cases. However, no specific etiology or correlation with comorbid conditions could be established in 73% of cases. Conclusion: Uveitis is a complex intraocular inflammatory condition resulting from several etiological entities, and causes of uveitis vary depending upon ecological, nutritional, racial and socioeconomic conditions in different countries.
