Abstract

Traditional medicine in Assam was holistic approach to health and well-being, incorporating physical, mental and spiritual dimensions. It was based on the principles of Ayurveda and other indigenous medical practices and relied heavily on the use of herbs, plants and minerals for healing purposes. Medicines made from herbs and shrubs have been helpful in the treatment of human ailments since time immemorial. The people of Assam has a rich tradition regarding the medicinal uses of plants and the knowledge have been passed through generation to generations through the oral traditions.
