Abstract

In this case study, a 41-year-old woman with left diaphragmatic eventration due to a toxic megacolon is described. She experienced sporadic breathlessness and sporadic epigastric discomfort. The patient has never experienced trauma before. Upon physical examination, a left hemithorax-related bowel sound was discovered. The diagnosis of a left hemi diaphragmatic eventration was supported by imaging techniques. The abdominal approach was used to do resection and end-to-end anastomosis of the transverse colon with a descending colon in 2 layers which was followed by plication of the left hemidiaphragm using ethilon. Following surgery, incentive spirometry and deep breathing exercises were initiated and the patient experienced a routine post-operative recovery.
