POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER ON BREASTFEEDING WOMEN AS COVID-19 SURVIVORS

Abstract
There were fears at the beginnings of the pandemic that pregnant women who have COVID-19 could have less favorable clinical consequences than the general population. The challenging and occasionally painful experience of childbirth, which has the potential to endanger the lives of the mother and the child, can lead to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The four categories of symptom groups that make up PTSD are intrusion or re-experiencing, avoidance, unfavorable changes in mood or cognitions, and high arousal. At one month postpartum, nursing exclusively and continuing for as long as desired were significantly less common among women who suffered from PTSD. This study aims to systematically review and summarize studies investigating PTSD on breastfeeding women as COVID-19 survivors. This study was carried out in October 2022 using data from PubMed/Medline and Google Scholar. Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) search keywords included the following: (“COVID-19 Survivors”) AND (“Posttraumatic Stress Disorder”) AND (“Breastfeeding Women”). The results revealed that breastfeeding mothers who tested positive for COVID-19 have reported having negative breastfeeding experiences when they are separated from their children. In addition, the also have difficulty nursing or receive less professional and family support. These results appear to be associated with worse mental health
