FREEZE AND THAW RESISTANCE OF SHOTCRETE CONCRETE USING MINERAL ADMIXTURES WITH QUARTZ SAND AND QUARTZ POWDER

Abstract
The goal of this study is to determine how making shotcrete concrete of M40 and M50 grade with micro silica substituting 10% of the cement and quartz sand and quartz powder replacing the entire fine aggregate influenced the concrete's resilience to freeze and thaw cycles. The ASTM C 666/C 666M – 03 standard code was adopted to conduct the freezing-thawing test on the specimens. Cement is partial replaced with alccofine and nano- silica and the strength and durability properties were examined when exposed to freeze– thaw cycles. The results revealed that alccofine and nano-silica concrete performed better than control mixes[8]. Recycled concrete aggregate(RCA) was substituted for crushed coarse limestone aggregate and the effects due to replacement of aggregate on freeze–thaw resistance, mechanical performance and transport properties of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) were investigated and it is found that, ultrasonic pulse velocity, water sorptivity and freeze–thaw resistance of concrete decreased in RCA containing mixtures[11]. In the present experimental investigation, Concrete specimens were tested for Freeze-Thaw cycles to determine percentage weight loss, dynamic modulus elasticity, relative dynamic modulus of elasticity and durability factor, Water Permeability, Sorpitivity to assess capillary rise absorption rate and Rapid Chloride Permeability Test to estimate chloride permeability were calculated.
