SURVEY ON RESTORATION OF ENDODONTICALLY TREATED ANTERIOR TEETH: A QUESTIONNAIRE BASED STUDY IN PALESTINE

Abstract

Background: A variety of restorative materials have been proposed to strengthen and reinforce the weakened tooth structure. In addition to these a plethora of clinical factors also dictate the long term success and prognosis of root canal treated tooth such as tooth structure remaining after endodontic therapy, the type of post core system, anti-rotational features in the preparation etc. Hence; the present survey was conducted on restoration of endodontically treated anterior teeth. Materials & methods: Dental practitioners were surveyed in relation to restoration of endodontically treated anterior teeth. A questionnaire previously described in the literature was sued and was modified. A total of 478 participants were chosen for participating in the present study. The entire questionnaire was distributed among dental practitioners and specialists. Complete demographic and clinical details of all the respondents were obtained. Responses of all the respondents were recorded in Microsoft excel sheet and was analysed by SPSS software. Results: A total of 423 responses were received for the present study. As far as frequency of respondents using different methods of endodontically treated tooth (ETT) is concerned, 66 percent of the participants favoured using of tooth-coloured restorations only when amount of remaining sound tooth structure was more than 50 percent. However; while comparing between dental graduates and post graduates, it was seen that both the group of respondents had similar views while choosing a method of restoring endodontically treated teeth on the basis of amount of remaining tooth structure. Conclusion: Cast post and crowns are favoured by maximum dentist population in case where remaining tooth structure is minimum. The adequate choice of the type of restoration of root canal treated anterior teeth by most of the respondents was expected to maximize chances for successful restorative outcomes.
