Abstract
Dental caries is considered one of the most common non-lethal chronic diseases afflicting humanity, which is caused by inadequate eating habits and improper oral hygiene. Oral hygiene can be performed in different ways; among them, through brushing, flossing or mouthwash, the latter being the one that has caused dental interest in recent years. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to systematically explore, analyze and select the literature on the antibacterial effect of mouthwashes. For this purpose, a systematic review of the scientific production present in databases such as Google Scholar, scopus, REDIB, latindex and others has been carried out, whose data collection was carried out through a rigorous selection, including search equations and inclusion and exclusion criteria. Finally, it is concluded that there are relevant studies associated with mouthwashes, noting a greater incidence in those that promote their elaboration with natural ingredients with the purpose of providing the same or a better antibacterial effect.
