WORK LIFE BALANCE OF NURSES IN SELECTED HOSPITALS OF CHENNAI: POST PANDEMIC STATUS QUO

Abstract

A nurse makes the colonnade of any hospital. And her work life balance is very important for smooth functioning of the hospital. Regrettably, Nurses work for eternity not getting time for their personal life. Many nurses are engrossed in their profession and let slip their work life balance. During Covid19 many didn’t go to their houses for the fear of spreading the disease through them. Hospitals were filled with patients; nurses who are limited in number have to take care of all the patients. In spite of the fear of spreading of disease they have to do their service to the patients to save them. Even post-Covid19 we are facing with continuous downfall in the health of many people ending up in hospitals and it is not again normal work for them. It is high time we should think about their work life balance. The main aim of this study is to find the work life balance of nurses and their well being. Primary data is collected using a structured questionnaire by online mode through Google forms. Sample size selected for this study is 100. Valid data is obtained from 64 respondents. Snow ball sampling method is used to collect data from nurses working in different hospitals in Chennai Analysis is done using statistical tools like percentage, Chi-Square, ANOVA etc. The findings shows that the work life balance is very important for nurses and those who had good work life balances are happy and healthy. Nurses who are working for long hours suffers from head ache, fatigue, stress and family issues because of lack of work life balance. The study also suggests ways to improve the work life balance of nurses and to improve their well being.
