Abstract

Introduction: Pilonidal sinus is a common disease of natal cleft in sacroccygeal region characterized by weak hair accumulation due to friction in that area. It usually consists of one or more openings communicating by fibrous track lined by granulation tissue. It commonly occurs in the deep natal cleft which is the groove between the buttocks, which extends from right below the sacrum to the perineum. Aims: To compare the outcome of Excision and primary repair versus Limberg flap procedure for the treatment of pilonidal sinus. Materials and Methods: The present study was a prospective, double-blind, randomized study. This Study was conducted from April 2019 to September 2020 at Department of General Surgery Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela and Odisha. Result: In our study, the distribution of seroma was compared between Group 1 and Group 2 using the chi-square test which showed no significant difference, though seroma was found to be more among Group 1 (11 .1 %). Conclusion: Though Limberg flap technique is a complex surgical procedure considering its flap transposition and extensive surgery but still limberg flap is superior compared to excision and primary repair with better wound healing, avoiding prolonged hospital stay and early return to work as found in our study
