Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common gynaecological conditions affecting women of child bearing age during menstruation. A higher prevalence of dysmenorrhea is generally observed in young women with estimate ranging from 67% to 90% for those aged 17-24 years. The main aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence and risk factors of dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls. A descriptive study was adopted in this study. By using Non probability purposive sampling technique, 60 adolescent girls were selected as samples at Sri Ramakrishna college, Coimbatore. The group was assessed by using questionnaires method. Data were analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The results indicated that there was no statistically significant association between dysmenorrhea and demographic variables (age group, weight, height, dietary pattern, sleeping hours).
