EFFECTIVENESS OF IMPLEMENTING NURSING PRACTICE ON IMMEDIATE POSTOPERATIVE OUTCOMES AMONG ACUTE LOWER LIMB ISCHEMIA PATIENTS

Abstract
Background: Acute lower limb ischemia (ALLI) is a vascular emergency requiring rapid multidisciplinary management, where nurses play a central role in improving patient outcomes through structured and evidence-based nursing care. Aim: To examine the effectiveness of structured nursing practices in reducing immediate postoperative complications among patients undergoing revascularization for ALLI. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted on 60 patients admitted to the Vascular ICU at Assiut University Hospital. Patients were assigned into control and intervention groups. The control group received routine care, while the intervention group received enhanced nursing care based on structured postoperative practices, focusing on hemodynamic monitoring, limb care, infection prevention, and patient education. Outcomes assessed included wound healing, capillary refill, pain level, edema, sensory recovery, and mortality rate. Results: The intervention group showed statistically significant improvements in early postoperative outcomes, with lower rates of complications including edema, wound infection, sensory impairment, and mortality. Conclusion: Structured and proactive nursing practices significantly improve postoperative outcomes in patients with ALLI. The findings reinforce the importance of nurse-led interventions in critical vascular care.
