Abstract
Acute gastric volvulus is an uncommon yet potentially life-threatening pediatric condition in which the stomach undergoes abnormal twisting, leading to serious risks—such as ischemia, perforation, or splenic involvement—if not promptly identified and managed. While most reported causes are either in adult population or in the pediatric age group wo have an underlying medical condition that predisposes to gastric volvulus; we report an 11-year-old girl who was diagnosed with primary acute gastric volvulus. Initial presentation included abdominal pain with non-bilious, non-projectile, blood-tinged vomiting. Patients diagnosed was confirmed by upper-esophageal contrast fluoroscopy which demonstrated features of gastric outlet obstruction secondary to mesentero-axial gastric volvulus. Patient underwent exploratory laparotomy and an anterior gastropexy. Prompt identification and treatment are crucial for achieving good outcomes in these uncommon pediatric emergencies.
