Abstract
In recent years, orthodontics has undergone a significant transformation with the advent of micro-implants, infra-zygomatic crest (IZC), and buccal shelf (BS) orthodontic bone screws. Orthodontic treatment decisions regarding premolar extraction have progressed to consider soft tissue profiles alongside hard tissue characteristics. lt is possible for a patient's profile to flatten after removing their premolars, giving the impression that the y is older than they are. Skeletal anchoring methods, such as miniplates and extraradicular screws, have offered greater control over incisor position and facial profiles during orthodontic treatment, making sagittal movement much more precise and efficient. Patients now have more treatment options, more accuracy, and fewer invasive procedures required, all of which contribute to more aesthetically acceptable outcomes. Achieving excellent results requires careful consideration of the characteristics and design components of these orthodontic screws. To fit various clinical scenarios, they come in varied head designs and neck lengths, along with screw components. The sizes, compositions, and anchoring types of bone screws are critical factors that affect how stable and efficient these screws are when used in orthodontic treatment. In addition, there are continuous discussions and studies about the method of insertion, primary and secondary stability, force effects, and anatomical factors to be taken into account while placing these screws. To make wise decisions when implementing these cutting-edge methods into their practice, orthodontists must have a thorough understanding of these issues.
