Abstract

Context: The provision of care for an Alzheimer's patient by family members may result in various physical, mental, financial, and social consequences; this is all encompassed within the intricate and multifaceted notion of carer burden. As a result, it is imperative to ensure the welfare of individuals providing care. The purpose of the study was to determine how nursing interventions affected the care burden of Alzheimer's disease patients. The study utilised a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test. Context: The present investigation was conducted at Benha Psychiatric Hospital, the Geriatric Outpatient Clinic of Al Khanka Hospital in Al-Qalubiya Governorate, and the Psychiatric Department of Benha University Hospital. A convenience sample comprises sixty carers and their relatives who are afflicted with Alzheimer's disease within the selected settings. Instruments utilised in data collection: As part of the inquiry, four instruments were employed. I. The researcher developed an interview questionnaire to assess the sociodemographic characteristics of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and their carers, in addition to the carers' professional conduct. II. The Alzheimer's Disease Expertise Scale (ADK), a tool utilised to assess the level of expertise possessed by carers. IV: Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Katz Index of Independence Scale for Assessing Patient Independence and III: Using the Zarit Burden Interviewing (ZBI) questionnaire to assess the burden on carers. As a result of the session, the knowledge and abilities of the carers improved. Subsequent to the intervention, the overall burden score exhibited a reduction. In conclusion, the educational intervention demonstrated efficacy in augmenting the expertise and competencies of carers while concurrently reducing their labour. It is suggested that carers for individuals with Alzheimer's disease receive support from social groups and participate in routine evaluations and educational interventions at outpatient clinics.
