Abstract

Utilising scientific literature, the purpose of this study was to identify nursing diagnoses associated with patient care for those at risk of developing deep vein thrombosis and treatments related to these diagnoses. The resources employed in this extensive review of the literature were acquired from the Virtual Health Library, an amalgamation of twelve health-related databases. In addition, references from the Medline database were acquired via the PubMed portal of the National Library of Medicine in the United States. The information retrieval process was initiated in October 2021 using the following search terms: "venous thrombosis"; "nursing diagnoses"; AND "venous thrombosis," either separately or in conjunction using the AND operator in Boolean syntax. An analysis of articles written in the following languages was conducted: English, Portuguese, and Spanish. The survey opted to include comprehensive publications that offered evidence in favour of the initial hypothesis, which postulated a dearth of research presenting nursing diagnoses for patients who are susceptible to deep vein thrombosis. The most prevalent nursing diagnosis, accounting for 49% of the cases, was "ineffective peripheral tissue perfusion." As a result, it was determined that additional research is required to validate a safer strategy supported by scientific evidence regarding the management of patients who are susceptible to deep vein thrombosis.
