NURSES’ KNOWLEDGE ON RISK FACTORS AND PREVENTIVE PRACTICES OF NOSOCOMIAL INFECTIONS IN SAUDI ARABIA 2022

Abstract
Background: Nosocomial infection or Hospital-acquired infection (HAIs) are a major problem in the medical industry, posing a significant danger to both patients and health care system specially nurses. Nurses are not only expected to be knowledgeable about HAI risk factors but are also to adopt preventive practices required against the HAI. Aims: This study assessed the level of knowledge about risk factors and, preventive practices against nosocomial infection among nurses. Methodology: A convenience sample technique to recruit respondents for this study. A self- structured questionnaire was used for the data collection. Data retrieved were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the use of Statistical Package for the Social Scientist (SPSS) version 21. Results: Findings revealed that 94.1% of the respondents had high knowledge about nosocomial infection, 95.9% had high knowledge on preventive practices against nosocomial infection. Conclusion: The study concluded that the nurses in the selected hospitals had good knowledge about risk factors of nosocomial infection and preventive practice.
