Abstract

Student academic achievement and performance are influenced by a multitude of factors, including psychological well-being. This study explores the key psychological factors that contribute to academic success. We examine the influence of factors such as self-efficacy, motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic), stress, anxiety, and emotional regulation on academic performance. Understanding these psychological influences can inform interventions and strategies to support student learning and achievement. The abstract concludes by highlighting the importance of promoting positive psychological well-being for fostering academic success. Methods: The study comprised one-hundred first-year medical students from the University of Sarajevo. The Big Five Inventory, the Index of Learning Style, and a sociodemographic questionnaire were employed in the survey. Each student's cumulative grade point served as a representation of their academic success. Outcomes: The students' gender, information processing type (i.e., active/reflective learning style), and academic accomplishment differed significantly. Academic success was adversely connected with conscientiousness, extraversion, and an active/reflexive learning style.
