CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED BY SAUDI ARABIAN MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CARRY OUT CLINICAL RESEARCH

Abstract
Within the context of this discussion, research activity is a significant procedure that is carried out in order to handle a problem in a methodical and specific manner. However, there is a dearth of information of this kind concerning the methodological challenges that medical professionals face when carrying out clinical research in Saudi Arabia. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the methodological challenges that are faced by healthcare practitioners in Saudi Arabia when they are doing clinical research. The Components and Procedures: This survey was a cross-sectional survey that was carried out among healthcare practitioners in Saudi Arabia who were either conducting research or were involved in research throughout the period of June 2018 through August 2018. The information was gathered through the use of SurveyMonkey, with a modified version of a questionnaire that was used in a previous study that was very comparable. The findings of the study revealed that a total of 236 individuals took part in the research. Of them, 131 (55.50%) had previously participated in research as principle investigators, 41 (17.40%) had never attended a research workshop, and 57 (24.20%) were members of research committees. Within the study process, "formulating the research title" and "cooperation between research partners" were rated as the most straightforward parts by 58 (24.58%) of the respondents, respectively. The stage that was chosen as the most challenging by 124 (52.54%) of the respondents was "receiving funds and financial resources to complete the research project." There was a strong correlation between attending more than two clinical research workshops and having lower scores on the methodological complexity scale. To be more specific, individuals who participated in the study received a score of 35.28 ± 12.86, but those who did not participate had a score of 42.34 ± 12.64, indicating a very statistically significant difference (P = 0%). The results of this study indicate that obtaining funding and locating a biostatistician who is available were significant contributors to the methodological challenges that were encountered when conducting clinical research. Furthermore, the difficulty score decreased significantly as the number of clinical research workshops that the researchers participated in increased.
