IMPROVING NURSING TECHNICAINS’ CULTURAL COMPETENCE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS: A SIMULATION-BASED EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION

Abstract

Cultural competence and communication are essential nursing skills, yet technicains may be inadequately prepared. This study implemented and evaluated a simulation-based educational intervention focused on building cultural awareness and strengthening communication abilities among Saudi nursing technicains. A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 50 nursing technicains assigned to intervention or control groups. The intervention entailed customized mannequin simulations exposing technicains to diverse cultural scenarios and communication challenges. Outcomes included cultural competence, communication self-efficacy, observational skill assessments and satisfaction. Intervention technicains showed significantly greater improvements across outcomes versus controls. Results support implementing focused simulation training into nursing curricula to enhance competence.
