EVALUATING A TRAINING PROGRAM ON PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY SKILLS FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS IN SAUDI ARABIA

Abstract

Emergency Medical Technicians (Emts) Require Robust Pediatric Emergency Care Skills, Yet Gaps Exist. This Study Implemented And Evaluated A Tailored Pediatric Emergency Training Program For Saudi Emts. A Randomized Controlled Trial Was Conducted With 150 Emts Assigned To Intervention Or Control Groups. The Intervention Entailed A 5-Day In-Person Pediatric Simulation Training Workshop Coupled With 3 Months Of Online Learning Modules. Outcomes Included Knowledge, Self-Efficacy, Clinical Performance Based On Simulation Observations, And Qualitative Feedback, Measured At Baseline, Post-Intervention, 6 Weeks, And 12 Weeks. Intervention Emts Showed Significant Improvements Across All Outcomes Versus Controls With Large Effect Sizes. Knowledge Gains Were Sustained Over The 12 Week Follow-Up. Self-Efficacy And Clinical Performance Remained Superior In The Intervention Group At Each Time Point. Qualitative Feedback Emphasized The Benefits Of Hands-On Simulation In Building Confidence, Decision-Making Abilities, And Skills Competence. Study Findings Support Implementing Comprehensive Pediatric Emergency Training Programs To Optimize Emt Capabilities And Pediatric Patient Outcomes.
