A NARRATIVE REVIEW ON THE OBSTACLES FACING SAUDI ARABIA'S PRIMARY HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

Abstract
Through substantial investments and the provision of complementary healthcare infrastructure, Saudi Arabia aims to improve the healthcare system. The foundation of universal health coverage is primary healthcare. Improving primary healthcare quality requires first identifying its problems. In order to improve the quality of Saudi Arabia's healthcare system, this narrative review sought to highlight the difficulties of primary healthcare. Methods: In order to draw conclusions on the current state of primary healthcare in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), a literature study was executed. According to the findings, the greatest obstacles to basic healthcare in Saudi Arabia revolve around the distribution of resources and the last stages of the administrative procedure. The imbalance in the distribution of resources among the kingdom's regions, a scarcity of medical professionals, and an inadequate database are all outcomes of poor resource allocation. Problems with communication and cultural hurdles were among the administrative process problems. There were also insufficient specialised clinics. As a result of all these problems, patients aren't happy with the treatment they get. In sum, the current problem in primary healthcare endangers the standard of healthcare in the kingdom. Electronic referral systems and other ancillary infrastructure are necessary for primary healthcare to integrate with other areas of healthcare. In addition to supporting healthcare providers through continuing education programmes focused on patient-centered care, this will help the healthcare system achieve the Kingdom's objective for 2030.
