SAUDI ARABIA'S HEALTHCARE HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT: NEW PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES-A CRUCIAL

Abstract

Context Saudi Arabia is presently undergoing a period of development. The Saudi healthcare system is under tremendous pressure to deliver better healthcare services to the country's burgeoning senior population as well as its fast expanding population. Two important issues that policymakers should take into account and address are the shortage of qualified healthcare professionals and the disproportionate reliance on immigrant labour. Reexamining healthcare Human Resource Development (HRD) programmes is crucial in order to ensure that there is a large pool of healthcare workers who possess the necessary education and skills. Technique The secondary data included in this critical assessment was gathered from a variety of sources, including databases, papers, journals, books, government documents, and previous studies conducted in this area. This study aims to record and assess the different actions that have been recommended and implemented in the healthcare HRD sector in Saudi Arabia as a result of the National Transformation Programme (NTP), which was approved in April 2016. The plan, Vision 2030, is the new strategic plan that inspired these actions. Outcomes It has been demonstrated that in addition to strict regulatory regulations, proper HRD capacity building must be implemented. Making sure that upcoming health sector investments satisfy the demands of regional healthcare HRD is also crucial. There is a great deal of room for the recruitment of young, skilled Saudi men and women into the healthcare industry. Saudization and the implementation of the "Nitaqat" programme have been instrumental in advancing Saudization goals in the private sector. In summary The government's groundbreaking initiative, Vision 2030, which was launched in 2016, attests to a significant change in the healthcare sector's strategy and implementation. The healthcare sector now has a very clear direction thanks to Vision 2030. However, in order to take advantage of the potential presented by the predicted shift from the current one-third to two-thirds Saudi to international labour ratio by 2030, caution must be taken in implementing this change.
