FACTORS INFLUENCING PATIENTS' USE OF DENTAL HEALTH SERVICES IN JAZAN, SAUDI ARABIA

Abstract
Regular use of dental health care services can help in the prevention and early detection of oral problems. The purpose of this research is to identify the variables that affect the frequency with which people in Jazan, Saudi Arabia, seek out dental care. The tools and techniques The researchers created and distributed a self-administered questionnaire as part of a cross-sectional study. Participants were residents of five distinct Jazan suburbs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who had visited either the primary dental centres or the dental clinics at Jazan University. "Demographic details," "self-reported dental visits," and "potential factors" pertaining to dental visits were the three categories into which the questionnaire's items were divided. A chi-square p-value of 0.05 or lower was deemed statistically significant, and for more accurate results, logistic regression with a 95% confidence interval (CI) was employed. Final Product Of the 395 people surveyed, 44.8% were men and 53.4% were women. Nearly half of the people surveyed said they hadn't been to the dentist in over a year, and a third said they should only go if they're in pain. Following a dentist's orders reduced the likelihood of a patient missing a scheduled dental appointment by a factor of seven (odds ratio, OR, CI, = 0.04, 0.40). In the subsequent analysis, patients who received information regarding their dental issues were found to be twice as unlikely to have irregular dental visit patterns (OR = 0.50; CI = 0.25, 0.98). Lastly, compared to patients who only completed basic school, those with a higher level of education and literacy were twice as likely to be regular with their dental checkups (OR = 2.21; CI = 1.14, 4.28). Conclusion The results of this study will help in the development of more targeted initiatives to promote dental health in the future, narrowing the achievement gap between Jazan's educated and uneducated populations.
