PREGNANT WOMEN IN JAZAN, SAUDI ARABIA: THEIR KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES, AND PRACTICES REGARDING PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLE EXERCISES

Abstract
Hey there! Women are more likely to experience urine and faecal incontinence if they have pelvic floor dysfunction caused by weak pelvic floor muscles. Its fragility also affects libido and the quality of an orgasmic experience, as well as the prolapse of reproductive organs. Research on Saudi women's knowledge of the role exercise plays in preventing and treating pelvic floor disease is scant. Women in Jazan, Saudi Arabia, will have their pelvic floor muscle exercise knowledge, attitude, and practice evaluated in this study. The tools and techniques This study aimed to examine pregnant women in the Jazan region through a cross-sectional approach. An Arabic self-administered survey was used to gather data. The four key components of the questionnaire were as follows: (1) participant demographics; (2) symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction; and (3) participant knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding pelvic floor muscle training. The correlation between the assessed demographic variables and the degree of knowledge was examined using a chi-squared test. Final Product The sample size for this study was 183 pregnant women.With a standard deviation (SD) of 5.3, the average age of the participants was 27.4 years. With an average of 20.9 weeks (SD:11.1) of pregnancy under one's belt, the median number of pregnancies was 2 (IQR: 1-3).Lower abdominal pain, of varying intensities, was reported by most pregnant women. Incontinence, whether of urine or faeces, was reported by nearly 50% of the sample, with varying degrees of severity. A knowledge score of 5 out of 12 was averaged, with scores ranging from 1 to 11. Pregnant women can still exercise their pelvic floor muscles, according to 71 women (38.8%). In addition, compared to other topics, the recruited moms' knowledge about the pelvic floor muscle exercise was significantly low. Almost a third of those who took the survey said the exercise made things worse or had no impact at all.Among those who took the survey, 50% said they never do pelvic floor exercises.There was only a statistically significant relationship between exercise practice and knowledge level, suggesting that women are more likely to have a high degree of knowledge among exercise practitioners. It may be inferred from this that women who possess greater information are more inclined to exercise (0.001). In summary There were a number of gaps in the recruited sample's understanding of how to exercise the muscles in the pelvic floor. Nearly a third of the sample did not think pelvic floor muscle exercises can be beneficial, even though the bulk of the sample had an attitude favouring them. Lastly, the percentage of people who regularly exercise their pelvic floor muscles was fewer than 10%. It is clear from these results that women in Jazan require more education and stricter compliance.
